Seemingly the only living Noa left (the Noa having otherwise gone extinct a very long time ago), Scrib's memories are clouded, not recalling much before his known life spent in a suspended capsule in a secret laboratory. That all changes when Ansel infiltrates the prison that the lab is located within, breaking her brother out.
Though there has been talk among those who originally found Scrib that he holds the key to "something of immense value", this information is buried far enough in his subconscious that it is even a mystery to him. As a Noa, he has no organs for speech, but he is highly intelligent. Upon his adoption, Ansel gives him a tablet that he can use to communicate with them, and his excitement at the idea of being able to verbalize his thoughts in writing made Ansel give him the nickname "Scribbles" (calling him "Scrib" for short).
Scrib is inquisitive and attempts to be positive, despite an undeniable fear of who or what he may actually be, since he is always discovering abilities that even he didn't know he had (an ability to change his skin pigment to camouflage with his surroundings, an innate and fluent knowledge of all languages, to name a couple), and his dreams of ominous darkness and whispers does nothing to quell that trepidation.
